slow, buggy, constant popups, and inextricably tied to evernote

This once-fantastic 5-star app has been smashed by new owners Evernote Incorporated. When you first start using Skitch, it feels snappy and simple. But as you build up a library of images, things get slower… and slower… and slower. I’m using it on a maxed out mid-2014 Macbook Pro 15”, and it crawls. Scrolling is painfully slow. Then there’s the bugs. Skitch now somehow ‘misses’ the window I’m trying to capture about half the time. Over and over I’ll end up with random screenshots. The mouse click to capture a screenshot will often ‘bleed’ through to the window underneath, clicking whatever you happen to be hovering over. Deleting an image can will often crash the entire application. Then there are general usability problems with the Evernote integration. At first glance it seems nice. But every time I quit the application, I’m greeted with a “not finished syncing to Evernote, quit anyway?” dialog. It doesn’t matter how long Skitch has been sitting idle… it could have had hours. Occasionally it will then crash after I tell Skitch to finish syncing before it quits. Really, you’d think syncing with Evernote would be it’s most robust feature - instead, it’s a constant hassle. You can’t really use Skitch standalone, you’re required to sync to Evernote. And once your Evernote quota is full, you’re subject to a constant barrage of popups telling you to buy an Evernote upgrade. Skitch suddenly becomes even more irritating to use. The last straw for me: I had dozens and dozens of images that I couldn’t sync to Evernote because my quota was full. Tired of the constant stream of nag popups, I attempted to sign out of Evernote to stop the sync process. Big mistake - every image that was not already written to Evernote was DELETED. I lost weeks of work. If you have very basic and casual needs and don’t mind using Evernote, Skitch might be convenient. If you have any kind of needs beyond that, Skitch is frustrating and dangerous to use. I’ve deleted Skitch from my hard drive. I’m actively looking for a more usable replacement, once that won’t constantly crash, hang, and delete my work.

Evernote Runied Skitch - I’m bailing on this thing

Skitch has taken drastic steps backwards since Evernote took over. I’m a big Evernote user, but they have runied this once capable solution. This used to be a great utility app, super improving my productivity for these mundane tasks (i do a TON of screen snaps). Customizable key commands are gone, saving locally is PIA now (where did the History panel go?). No thanks, I’m killing this and going with one of the other options. I have given you guys plenty of feedback about this (as did others).

Skitch - GREAT replacement for the native screenshot capability of a mac

I have been a diehard screenshot and preview user on the Mac. With the release of Yosemite, they changed they way the annotating tools work in Preview, to the point that they are no longer usable for quick screenshot markup. I switched over to skitch, and have never been happier with that decision. This is a great GREAT product, and is usable far beyond simple screenshot markup.

so far, so good.

a must have app for my mac.

Daily use...

I use Skitch every day, I’ve found so many uses for this little screen capture program. If you have an Evernote account it becomes even more useful; you can screen capture receipts and file them with ease, capture notes, annotate them, and mail them to your group for action… because a ‘picture says a thousand words’. I cannot stress easy it is to use Skitch; the icon sits at the top of the screen and provides you with just the tools you need to quickly capture a shot, annotate if needed, and pull and drag (in SEVERAL formats) to the progam of choice. Skitch goes away when doing this, basically moving out of the way so that you can drag and drop with impunity. I’ve used other screen capture apps, and Skitch is hands down the lightest in terms of resource use, and the most versatile. 5 stars all the way.

Nifty Little Program

Quick to make simple edits on images. Great for marking up images, posters, flyers, and brochures for changes with graphic designers.

Would be so much better with a photos extension

This is a great app. But, it would be cool if like on iPhone you could use this inside the Photos app. I hear it’s now possible with El Capitan.

great

love chaniging screen shots its fun

Great Tool.

Evernote integration is even better. Right clicking on an image already in a note to annotate is convenient.

The best

Just flat out quick and awesome.

Fast and Light and Perfect for Quick Work

I love Skitch. I usually use Photoshop for photo editing screenshots but Skitch has saved me tons of time by being my go to screen shot editor. Thanks Skitch!

Not customizable

Used to be customizable. Now it isn’t. The absolute worst productivity-killing change to the recent updates was the fact that you can’t just take screenshots anymore, now you have to choose a “Are you sure?” dialog after each one! The fact that you can’t choose “never ask me again” makes it much harder to use this app than the many other solutions out there. Yeah, that may sound like a small thing, but trust me, use it for a few days and you’ll see what I mean.

Indispensable

This is the most indispensable little app. It serves its function expertly and I use it all the time. Very handy. Thanks to the dev team for doing an awesome job.

Great and very useful app.

You don’t have to have an Evernote account to use this app. I really like the blurring feature, it helps when publishing a screenshot with sensitive information.

Can’t imagine using my mac without Skitch

I love this app and its integration with Evernote. Fast, simple, easy. Would like a few more options for annotations (font selection for example, select marquee, cut, copy paste of image fragments, etc…) but you can’t beat it for a free product.

Awesome App

Pair it with the equally awesome Dropshare app for double plus goodness.

Fantastic

Best screen capture app on the market. Easy and intuitive!

My go-to screenshot annotation app

Skitch is a fantastic app that I use daily. It strikes the right balance of giving you enough tools to capture and markup screenshots well, without an overload to make it complicated. Simple, quick, and powerful.

Quick, Simple.

It’s not overburdened with a bunch of useless features. I dig it.

It’s OK

I was hoping for something along the lines of Paint in Windows. This had some surprising features that were a lot better than Paint. On the other hand, a lot of essentials that I do in Paint every day are missing. I couldn’t ever figure out how to quickly and easily remove a rectangular section of an image. In Paint, you can just select it with the select tool and cut it. I also wanted to insert an image from the web into an existing Skitch image on which I was working, but when I tried to paste the image I got an error that I was going to lose my changes.
